The same commercial customer for whom we installed the brown commercial aluminium doors and windows at ‘The Barn’, approached us with this project. This time they required light grey commercial aluminium doors and windows for this warehouse in Tilbury, Essex.

This customer of ours is a prolific demolition, groundworks, and design and build main contractor across the South East of England. We have carried out a lot of work for them over the years. We were therefore unsurprised to receive the tender documents at planning stages for this large development of warehouses.

The specification and design was simple. The warehouses required durable thermally broken light grey commercial aluminium doors and windows to match the RAL colour of the cladding. As the warehouses doubled up as functional offices, the new commercial doors and windows had to comply with all the necessary building regulations requirements. Most importantly in this case, they needed to be thermally efficient. Poorly insulated warehouse offices make for very unpleasant workspaces!

The windows are our Smart Alitherm 600 open out casement windows. The aluminium doors are from our Senior SD commercial door range. We fitted all of the commercial aluminium doors with aluminium low thresholds for easy wheelchair access and also so people were likely to trip over on the threshold. The client later fitted mirrored tinted stickers onto the door screen glazed units to give the reflective effect you can see in the images below.

All of the Saint Gobain Total Plus double glazing was toughened safety glass where necessary. Where toughened safety glass is required is often picked up from architects’ drawings and if it is not totally clear whether it will be required or not, our experienced surveyors will certainly pick it up. Toughened safety glass is required in the following situations. The glazed unit must be toughened if any of the following apply.

1) If the unit is in a door.

2) If the unit is 300mm or closer to a door.

3) If the unit is 800mm or closer to the finished floor level on either the inside or the outside.

Check out the photos below to see the installation in more detail.
