We recently completed a large-scale renovation project on a 1970s built property, Cambria House in Seasalter near Whitstable on the Kent coast. The project involved replacing all the casement windows and installing a new entrance door and modern sliding patio door. Our well-travelled client wanted the renovation to incorporate architectural influences from around the world.

Cambria House is a unique property structured around a central courtyard with several full height windows. From the road, the property looks understated with only the single storey section visible. As you approach the property its larger scale is slowly revealed.

At the rear, the property is of three storey construction providing stunning views of the harbour and coastline. The client wanted to optimise the location and maintain the architectural charm while upgrading the property’s energy efficiency and security performance. After careful consideration, we advised the customer to choose aluminium products for their durability and sleek contemporary feel. With our help, the clients decided on Schüco aluminium windows and doors for the whole project. They chose RAL 9005 Matt Black as the colour to finish the windows and doors for its timeless style.

Schüco are a German aluminium systems designer and manufacturer with a reputation for quality. They have provided aluminium windows, doors, and facades for some of the world’s most prestigious buildings. Schüco products were the perfect choice to achieve a modern twist on this truly unique property.

For the window re-fit, we installed Schüco AWS 70 SC casement windows throughout the property. The windows were manufactured with a Saint Gobain Planitherm Total Plus double glazed sealed unit for excellent energy efficiency. The entrance door was a Schüco ADS 70 HI with an Igman panel and 70mm depth for superior strength and outstanding thermal insulation. The entrance door was finished with stainless steel bar handles which accentuated the modern aesthetic.

The feature point of the installation was a Schüco ASS 70 HI sliding door which was installed to maximise the building’s panoramic coastal views. This versatile and high functioning sliding door was finished in RAL 9005 Matt Black for a sleek look and its large glazed area optimises the intake of natural light. It functions on a monoslide system for enhanced functionality. The Schüco ASS 70 HI sliding door can achieve U-values as low as 1.3W/m²K and will provide an excellent entrance solution for years to come.

Our clients were delighted with the installation and are now enjoying the benefits of a high performing, truly modern home. The property has lost none of its original character but is now a retro revelation of architectural aluminium.
