If you get the chance to create a new home for you and your family, it’s your opportunity to make every detail perfect. The finish of your windows and doors can often be a last-minute decision – but if you take the time to consider them as an additional design feature, you use them to really add a contemporary feel to the interior and exterior of your home.
This is exactly what our recent customers in Surrey found out when we added a selection of Smart solutions to their new property. In particular, a clever tweak to our Smart Alitherm 300 windows made sure we were really able to fulfill the client’s expectations.
Working with a team
Wokingham is a historic market town based in Surrey. This beautiful town is a great location for commuters to settle down and there have been some major renovations of the location amenities to meet this growth.
We were contacted by Kirkby Homes to quote for a major luxury build they were putting together for one of their customers. We’ve worked with the team at Kirby Homes previously and understand their commitment to building low maintenance homes – particular with a focus on energy efficiency and use of traditional materials.
They’d also seen our work on a similar Surrey new build project and really appreciated the quality of our installation.
We entered the project while it was still at the architect’s drawing phase, allowing us to drill down on the spec early enough to make sure the windows were a serious consideration.
Recommending stunning solutions
To bring maximum light into this beautiful development, we recommend a selection of our high quality windows and doors – with a little help from our partners at Express Skylights.
There were certain requirements the customer wanted to meet. They needed slim-frame, maintenance-free aluminium windows and doors that could be a different colour inside and out. To retain the bright, airy feel, they preferred the frames to have a white inside colouring, but with a neat grey outside to pair with the traditional red brick and cream colour sandstone cills.
The first of our Smart solutions included the Smart Alitherm 300 casement windows. These windows have slim frames, a sturdy feel and help to give your home excellent thermal efficiency – creating a contemporary, modern look that’s also practical.
Based on the design aesthetic of the rest of the property, our project consultant James suggested adding dummy sashes to the window solution. Dummy sashes are windows that don’t open, but look like they could from the outside – they help to balance up the window sashes to give a more symmetrical look.
We partnered this with our Smart Alitherm Plus double doors and Smart Visofold 1000 bifolding doors. Both of these solutions have beautifully slim and sleek sightlines, which successfully allow for a larger amount of natural light to enter the home.
As a final addition to really add the ‘wow factor’, we got in touch with our partners at Express Skylights. They recommended an Atlas aluminium roof lantern to allow light to spill down and bring brightness into the rooms, reducing the need for excessive electric lighting.
To give each solution a clean, luxurious finish, we recommended a consistent colouring of RAL7016 anthracite grey for the outside of all our solutions. We also ensured that the insides were a smart white colouring to match the customer’s vision exactly.
Bringing a home to life
Once all parties involved were happy with the detail of our proposal and the deposit was paid, we moved on to survey the site.
Terry, our surveyor, went to the property to take all final measurements. As is often the case with new builds, not all of the apertures were ready to measure on time. To make sure the project wasn’t held up, Terry agreed with the builder what size the aperture would be made to. The builder could then oversee the sizing as part of his time on site.
After the survey was approved and all of the products had been finalised and sent to site, it was over to our installation team. With our director Dan, and Dave and Stuart as installers, each window and door went in on time and without an issue.
The stunning finished product is beautiful property that really marries the beauty of both traditional and modern design. The customer was thrilled with our solutions and felt it was an easy, seamless process from start to finish – they know they’ll be happy with their windows and doors for many years to come.
