Achieving the perfect finish on an ambitious self-build
When you meet the right team, incredible things can happen and everything falls into place perfectly – this is never more apparent than when managing your own home project.
Developing a close and effective relationship with tradesmen is especially important when you have a particular aesthetic in mind. We saw this first hand with a large new-build project that we completed last year in the stunning town of Sevenoaks.
Hitting it off
Our client discovered us online and came to meet us at our showroom where he found that being able to see and touch the products was a major advantage. Our project consultant James then guided the client through some bespoke recommendations that he felt would help to achieve symmetry andstyle throughout the property.
The client instantly felt at ease with James, developing a rapport that would last throughout the project and bring it to a successful conclusion. The client was particularly impressed that our surveyor, Terry, would offer multiple onsite surveys as the build developed and felt like he was in safe hands.
Getting the brief spot-on
The client wanted to maximise his view with the use of sliding doors and install a glass screen (similar to one you’d see at an airport or shopfront) to let in natural light. While ambitious, our expertise with large glass panes meant we were excited about this project from the offset.
To help our client achieve his vision we recommended using dummy sashes to achieve an equal sightline throughout all of the windows. This means that even the closed non opening windows look like the opening windows from the outside, adding a modern-feeling symmetry to the property.
The client liked this idea so we recommended the use of the Schuco ASS70 FD bifolding doors and ASS70 HI lift and slide doors to truly maximise the client’s view of the garden. We also suggested going with the Smart alitherm 300 window in a curved bay design. To enhance the modernity of the building, the client opted for the Sensations Sand colour, a gorgeous neutral that offered a timeless elegance to the property.
For the glass screen, we advised the use of a Senior SCW curtain walling front screen which would enable us to cover a large span area with a slim profile, uniform system. The client was thrilled with our ideas and we began installation.
A smooth installation
For the DWL experts no challenge is unbeatable and no solution is too bespoke. We worked closely with the client during the week long installation, adapting to each challenge along the way. This was evident when our client advised us that he didn’t want bay posts in the curved bay. Our in house CAD technician and estimator David was incredible. He expertly designed a curved bay without bay posts, leaving the client thrilled with the end aesthetic.
Let there be light!
Standing back and looking at the finished project, it was clear that we’d ticked every box for the client and that he couldn’t be more pleased with the success of the project. The client can now enjoy a home flooded with natural light and magnificent views of his beautiful garden – all year round.
