They have great thermal values and fantastically slim aluminium frames, maximising the sky and light. They are perfect for the modern flat roof extension that we seem to be installing so many into.
This project was managed through the customers’ architect and interior designer, who project managed the whole job for them, acting as a kind of main contractor.
After many discussions on the phone and emails back and forth, we arrived at the final spec and design. One of our Atlas skylights, grey on the outside and white on the inside to match the interior decorating. This included our standard self-cleaning double glazing to the roof. This comes in either blue, green or clear. As do many others, these customers went for blue as it makes the grey British sky look better!
We were also to install double doors and fixed frames along with a set of 4 pane bifolding doors. All of the doors and side panels were to be in the ever-popular dark anthracite grey on both the inside and outside.
After the final meeting at the showroom to organise the deposit and final signing of the order form, there was to be a wait of a couple of months for the survey until all of the steels were up and our surveyor Terry could take a final and accurate measurement. As can be seen in the photos below, the design and layout of the doors and windows with 90 degree angles on it meant that it was too risky to order the metal off plan. We needed a solid on site full survey before ordering anything. The client was not prepared to take the risk of the sizes not working out either.
Around 8 weeks later, our guys Dave and Stuart installed everything in two days. Check out the before and after photos below, as well as the video below showing our installer Dave carrying out the installation of the Atlas skylight.
