Wandsworth is an affluent borough of London which appeals to professionals. Home to pockets of open green spaces, gourmet food spots and handy travel connections it’s no wonder Wandsworth is one of the most popular spots in the capital.
This area is also one of the more affordable areas of London (with super low council tax rates). As a result it’s become a hub for home project enthusiasts and dazzling renovations – with residents using their extra cash to make improvements to their properties.
We recently worked on one such project in Wandsworth which involved recreating one of the most sought after design features out there: Crittall-style Heritage 47 windows.
What are Crittall Heritage 47 windows?
Originally developed in 1884 by Essex ironmonger Francis Henry Crittall, these black steel framed windows are one of the most desirable window styles in the world.
Crittall windows are often associated with Art Deco and Modernist design and are regarded as an iconic element of 20th Century architecture. You can spot them on iconic buildings in Singapore and at famous locations such as the Tower of London and the New York Botanical Gardens.
Crittall windows in London – a popular choice
Black steel-framed windows always look timeless and chic which makes them a superior choice for London properties. With their modern aesthetic and traditional, industrial heritage they make the perfect addition to urban properties in London.
Crittall windows complement every type of home from sprawling modern mega-builds to Victorian townhouses. They work well because they provide a sense of sophistication and often increase the value of the property. Crittall-style Heritage 47 windows are often double glazed and are easy to maintain and make for a fantastic addition to any renovation project.
How to recreate that enviable crittall windows look
For this recent project, we were able to recreate the Crittall window aesthetic using a combination of Smart Heritage 47 windows, an Atlas Roof and Alumil S440 Sliding Doors.
To help achieve the Crittall look, our team made sure to provide CAD drawings to make sure the bar designs were correct and suited each opening. We also provided advice to make sure the sliding door would work with any non removable steel already at the property.
The Crittall-style Heritage 47 windows not only brighten up the property but create a unique design aesthetic which makes a great talking point. Needless to say our customer was thrilled with the final look.
The seal of approval from a happy customer
In addition to being impressed with our previous projects and our luxury showroom, there’s another surefire way to know that a customer is truly ecstatic with our work: when they want to work with us again.
After the conclusion of this particular project, our customer recommended us to their builders who we have since worked with on a number of new projects. A great success all round.
Want to include the Crittall windows look in your next home project?
Take inspiration from our customer who chose a Cotswold Painswick Grey colour for the Heritage windows and Matt black on the S440 doors to ensure a flawless Crittall-style finish.
