Schuco ASS70 HI lift & slide doors are sometimes the only option for large apertures. We installed this 6 metre set and two flat skylights too in this renovation in North London.
As with many others, this project arrived in our laps at tender stage. The client needed a lot of guidance in terms of product and design.
The spec of the doors was deliberated over for some time, with our chap Dan spending a lot of time going through everything with the customer. The first decision was between aluminium bifolding doors and aluminium sliding doors. The obvious advantage with bifolds being that you can open them fully up creating a great opening perfect for entertaining or simply just allowing the outside, inside.
The next question was to whether to choose the Schüco ASS50 or its more thermally efficient older brother, the ASS70 HI. For thermal and size limitation reasons, the more expensive Schuco ASS70 HI lift & slide door was the one to go for in this respect.
The next decision was between straight sliding mechanism or the lift & slide mechanism. Given the size of the aperture and how heavy the panes would be, we guided the customer towards the lift & slide option. At almost 6 metres wide, this aperture was pushing sizes limits in a 2-pane configuration even using the Schuco ASS70 HI lift & slide door already. However, utilising Schüco’s fantastic lift & slide gearing, which makes light work of anything up to 250kg panes, the doors now operate seamlessly at the push of a finger and the customer absolutely loves them, both to look at and to use.
The final decision was colour. Matt black was quickly chosen as a clean and modern colour.
The couple also ordered two single pane flat skylights above the kitchen area to allow natural daylight to pour in.
Six weeks later, our guys were there for a whole day installing the Schuco ASS70 HI lift & slide doors and the two skylights.
Overall, another great example of how the Schuco ASS70 HI lift & slide door can be effectively utilised. Below you can check out the before and after pictures below. You can click them to enlarge them.
