As with most of our commercial contracts, the job arrived with us at tender stage. This means a huge pile of paperwork with drawings and specifications. On a job of this size, there are often queries where the architect has specified or drawn something that is not quite possible or is simply a very expensive way of doing things. With all of our projects, we suggest the most cost effective way for us to supply our products to the client. In this case, it involved tweaking the sizes slightly which would permit new, more cost effective designs on our slim profile grey aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling.
The specification on the project included installing two separate shopfronts with our non-thermal aluminium. One, in a large U shape creates a fantastic glass panorama. The large curtain walling piece had specifically requested tinted glass requirements to cloak some of the structural beams the other side of the glass. The office space required aluminium windows fit for commercial application and generally, a top hung over fixed design was chosen.
Throughout the residential part of the development, we installed our thermally broken slim profile grey aluminium windows and doors fit for residential application for the luxury apartments they were to become.
You may have noticed above the mention of “non-thermally broken” aluminium and “thermally broken” aluminium. This refers to how the aluminium profile is made up. Non-thermally broken aluminium means that from the outside of the profile to the inside of it is purely aluminium. Thermally broken aluminium means that in between the outside aluminium and the inside aluminium is a polyamide thermal break. This prevents the cold transfer from outside to inside. It also greatly improves the u values throughout of the slim profile grey aluminium windows and doors. There is a good explanation of the difference, which can be found here.
It’s great to have a project that showcases so many of our products, both for commercial and residential application all RAL colour-matched to create a consistent look throughout the large development.
